Game of Thrones has seen its fair share of deaths. At one point, major characters were being killed off faster than we could count. But there are a few fan favourites who have clung on in there despite them surviving well past their expiry dates. Here’s our list of characters that need to die soon.

Jon Snow

It was one of the worst kept secrets in television history. We all knew that Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) wasn’t actually ‘dead’, and his dramatic return took the show on an unnecessary diversion. We already had enough supernatural elements to contend with, but raising the dead took away an element of jeopardy that made the first few series so exciting. The best thing to do now would be to kill off this bastard and make sure he doesn’t come back.

The Hound

Another character set to return from almost certain death is Sandor ‘The Hound’ Clegane. We thought he was done for after the brutal combination of Arya Stark and Brienne of Tarth took down the craggy warrior. Even before his defeat, though, The Hound (Rory McCann) had little purpose in life. He was a masterless assassin who appointed himself the guardian of the youngest Stark girl in her hour of need. Once Arya was able to fend for herself, though, Sandor became an irrelevance.

Game of Thrones, series 4, episode 8, ‘The Mountain and the Viper’

The Mountain

On this list mainly for the same reasons as Jon Snow, the hokey nature of his resurrection following an admittedly enthralling battle with Oberon ‘The Red Viper’ Martell, should have seen the beast die from his mortal wounds. Instead, a few poorly explained medical procedures were performed and The Mountain returned bigger and badder than ever. A fight to the death between the Clegane brothers seems to be the only way out of this pickle.

Jamie Lannister

Once a proud and fierce warrior, Jamie is armless now (sorry). But let’s be honest, the dashing brother/lover of Cersei is now very much in the shadow of both of his siblings. Diminutive Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) is now a man in his own right, and no longer needs protection from the Kingslayer, and the last we saw of Cersei she was sat on the iron throne itself. Unable to fight, having lost his illegitimate offspring and a pale imitation of himself from earlier series, what exactly is the point of this Lannister?

Daenerys Targaryen

The Queen of Dragons has now become the queen of yawns! Daenerys Targaryen’s epic journey began as a refreshing rise to power as we watched the shy and reserved young woman grow into a powerful leader and genuine threat to the established order. Unfortunately, the repetitive nature of her story arc, which involves conquering a group of people with ease and then getting stuck in a quagmire of politics and cultural sensibilities, mean that we just don’t care anymore. Unthinkable that we can’t stomach seeing much more of Emilia Clarke, but the character is just too dull now.

The Dragons

We get that they are important to the story, but the overly powerful dragons are starting to ruin the battles that we were originally so enthused about. They are the equivalent of nuclear weapons in a time where swords and shields should rule. Now, perhaps, once winter finally comes and the White Walkers begin to properly enter the fray, we will get some evenly matched combatants, but right now, the dragons need to go away.

Jorah Mormont

Poor lord Friendzone (as he has come to be known). Pining away for Daenerys, Mormont (Iain Glen) has lost his noble position and instead become an self-pitying navel-gazing loser. Whilst the Queen of Dragons is off on many conquests, the only thing Jorah has been able to get is a nasty skin rash. A loyal servant he once was, but now he is a liability.
